ABOUT US
Thirteen years ago, the
Islamic Society of Sarasota & Bradenton, Inc (ISSB)
was established by some dedicated, courageous and
faithful brothers and sisters of our community. First
it was established as part of The Islamic Society of
North America (ISNA), then it was separated to lead the
torch of Islam in both Sarasota & Manatee counties
independently. This organization was founded to remain
and to grow by the big efforts of the faithful people
of our community, depending on Allah (SWT), and then
the good Muslims of our community. The heart of the
work in ISSB is volunteering service in the cause of
Allah (SWT). Today the ISSB is serving more than 600
person in both Sarasota & Manatee counties. In the
beginning, the ISSB did rented several places to
perform the Friday congregation prayer and to practice
the traditions of Islam. While it continues to grow,
the board of directors (Majlis Al-Shura) with the help
of our Muslim community purchased the property at 4350
N.Lockwood Ridge Rd and that was in 1994 as a
residential property. With some help they managed to
convert the garage area to be a place for worship
(Masjid). For the Sunday school, this is another
successful story, will talk about it later. The first
expansion came in December 1998 as a result of the
continuing growth of our Muslim community. The prayer
area increased by 80%. A major renovation was done
inside and outside the building including adding a
large screened lanai in order to accommodate all our
families during the month of Ramadan and other events.
Today we are looking forward to the future with a lot
of optimism; we will get the Masjid permit within few
weeks. We will start our big project to build the new
Masjid inshaallah in the near future, and then
establish the Sunday school. Our hopes and dreams will
never end as long as there are dedicated and committed
people in our community. May Allah (SWT) bless and
